Currently in Los Angeles — October 9, 2023: A cooldown with some morning fog

Plus, on Indigenous Peoples Day, #landback for climate justice

The weather, currently.

A cooldown with some morning fog

The heatwave over the last few days didn’t disappoint, with abundant 80s and 90s all across the L.A. area, including at the beaches. Due north of us, the Central Coast had some impressive temperatures in the triple digits, shattering records.

To start the week on Monday, however, a cooldown will begin with an approaching front. That means the return of onshore flow and all the low clouds and fog associated with it. But still quite seasonable with temps in the low 80s away from the coast.

What you need to know, currently.

One of the best climate strategies is returning stolen land to Indigenous people — this is what climate justice looks like.

This year, in advance of Indigenous Peoples Day, the NDN Collective has launched a Just Transition fund to help build technical capacity for frontline groups to continue the #landback fight.

Indigenous people already protect the vast majority of the world’s biodiversity, with technologies such as prescribed fire and responsible resource harvesting. It’s time for the rest of society to follow their lead.
