Currently in Los Angeles — June 11, 2024: Tons of sunshine

Plus, new ways to support our independent climate journalism

The weather, currently.

Tons of sunshine

The inversion was much less strong on Monday, with the marine layer not penetrating up into Santa Clarita as it has done at times in past weeks. Expect similar strong clearing on Tuesday, before a short-lived cooling trend mid-week. The weekend is looking good and might usher in another decent heatwave.

Did you know that DTLA gets more sunshine in September as the days are getting shorter (nearly 279 average monthly sunshine hours) versus right now as we approach the Summer Solstice in June (about 276 hours)? So yes, this June Gloom thing is just part of our climate. Painful at times. But totally normal.
